How to apply, step by step

Confirm you need a Schengen visa, not ETIAS
Ghana is on the EU Annex I visa-required list. ETIAS is for visa-exempt countries only — you apply for a Type C Schengen visa.

Apply at the right embassy
Use the embassy of your main destination via VFS Global, TLScontact or BLS in Accra. Pay €90 + service fee.

Submit biometrics & wait
Fingerprints captured at the visa centre (valid 5 years). Standard processing 10–15 working days.

Prepare for EES at the border
On first arrival in Schengen post-Oct 2025, give 4 fingerprints + face scan at the EES kiosk. Allow extra time at busy hubs.

Do Ghanaians need ETIAS in 2026?+
No. ETIAS is only for visa-exempt nationals. Ghanaian passport holders still need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa.
How much will ETIAS cost when it launches?+
€20 — but this fee does NOT apply to Ghanaians. You continue paying the €90 Schengen visa fee plus VFS service charges.
When does ETIAS go live?+
